This Privacy Policy sets out how we use and protect any information that you give us when you use this website.

We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Once you use the Henson Editorial Services website, you will be bound by the terms stated in this privacy policy.

From time to time we may change this policy by updating this page. You should regularly check this page to ensure that you are happy with any changes.

Please note that the data collected is used by the Henson Editorial Services team (including both freelancers and employees) and the company's suppliers.

Book Customers

We collect information from you when you purchase an eBook and/or paperback via our online Book Store. We may collect the following information:

  • Name
  • Contact information including email address and postal address

We require this information to process your book order and to store the order on our system so that we have a record of how many copies of each book have been sold.

Please note that only your name will be stored on our book sales system and no other data. Your data will NOT be used for marketing purposes and will only be used, so we can refer to your order, if there are any issues (e.g. you receive a faulty or incorrect file) and so we have a record of how many copies of each book have been sold. Your name will be stored indefinitely, as means of identifying each order as unique and to avoid risk of duplicate orders, which could result in incorrect royalty payments for authors.

However, if you would like us to remove your data from our system at any point, please let us know. We can anonymise your name and will delete any email correspondence. Please note that order data will also be stored by Paypal (payment provider) and Ingram (printers). We cannot be held responsible for the protection and privacy of your order data by these organisations, as they have their own privacy policy, therefore please contact these organisations directly.

Authors

We collect information from you when you fill out a form or submit your details (e.g. to request a quote, submit an enquiry, receive our newsletter or claim a free e-book). You are not obliged to provide any information, however, and you may visit our site anonymously.

We may collect the following information:

  • Name
  • Contact information including email address, telephone number and postal address
  • Manuscript details or samples

We require this information for the following reasons:

  • We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with more information for the product(s)/service(s) you have requested.
  • Your information may also be stored in a CRM system for internal record keeping.
  • We may use the information to improve our products and services
  • We may periodically send promotional emails about new products, special offers or other information which we think you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided
  • From time to time, we may also use your information to contact you for market research purposes. We may contact you by email, phone, fax or mail.
  • We may use the information to customise the website according to your interests

You can always opt out of future communications with us at anytime.

Personal Data

Following an enquiry, details about yourself and your book (name, email address, book title, word count, genre, location and phone number, if given) will be added to our system. The purpose of this is so we can assist with your enquiry – providing you with more information on the services/publication packages you have expressed an interest in and for us to provide you with a tailored quote for our services.

If you would like your details to be removed at any time, please just your Publishing Advisor know or please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We hold data about potential authors for a period of four years from date of enquiry.

Contact

As many authors are often still working on their manuscript, your Publishing Advisor will follow up with you at regular intervals to assist you further. If, at any point, you do not wish for us to contact you again, please let your Publishing Advisor know (or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and your data and email correspondence will be deleted. Please note that your email address will still be retained on our system, as this is required so that we know not to contact that email address again. The removal of details will mean that the company will cease all contact both now and in the future.

Protection of your Documents

Any attachments that you send (e.g. manuscript sample) or attachments that we send you (e.g. editorial feedback) will not be saved and will remain within email correspondence only. Only once a service has been confirmed via payment will files be saved off onto our system for the sole purpose of providing the service. Some authors are concerned about copyright protection when sending a sample of their manuscript; please do not worry about this, as the author is completely protected by copyright by being the first creator of the work. Your manuscript will also be entirely confidential within the company. Although Henson Editorial Services has taken reasonable precautions to ensure that no viruses are present in any of their documents, the company cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage arising from the use of attachments provided during the publication process.

Marketing Purposes

Please note that, as our main method of communication is email, if you wish to provide a phone number, this will only be used as a means of communication, if you ask us to use this method and will not be used for marketing purposes. From time to time, we send out free advice and guidance on a range of issues in publishing, suitable for all authors, regardless of writing stage (e.g. best ways to market your book, the tricks of the most successful authors, how to attract literary agents and sign a six-figure publishing deal), along with information about how we might be able to help. If you would like to receive this advice, please let your Publishing Advisor know and your email address will be added to our system. You will not be automatically added to the marketing database, unless you express a wish to. You are also welcome to unsubscribe at any time, if you feel the information is no longer useful.

If you are unhappy about continuing with your enquiry further, please let us know and we will remove your details from our system. We would also appreciate any feedback as to how we could better assist our authors with data protection.
